Spotlight on this 1958 mister softee ice cream van

The listing shows a fully restored 1958 ice cream truck with working generator, lights, and engine. It carries an automatic transmission and an off-white exterior and interior. The two-door van body and Boyertown build give it the straight lines and period proportions common to late-1950s delivery vehicles.

Producers can see the truck as a complete rolling set piece rather than a static prop. All listed mechanical items are noted as operational, which supports scenes that require the vehicle to move or run equipment on location. The Mesa base places it within reach of Arizona film and commercial work without long-distance shipping.

Picture Car Coordinator and the Arizona Picture Car Market

Picture Car Coordinator connects productions with vehicles listed on USA Movie Cars. This partnership lets crews search for Arizona picture car rental options through a single network while still reaching local inventory. USA Movie Cars works with state picture-car sites such as Arizona Picture Cars to surface vehicles that are already in the region.

Mesa, Arizona, sits in a growing production corridor that includes both major studio work and independent projects. Having the 1958 mister softee ice cream van listed locally helps location managers and picture car coordinators match period vehicles to scripts without leaving the state. The same network approach also supports searches for Arizona film car and Arizona movie car needs across neighboring markets.

History of the 1958 mister softee ice cream van

Ice cream trucks in the late 1950s were built on light-duty van or delivery chassis and often carried custom bodies from specialists such as Boyertown. These vehicles served neighborhood routes with built-in freezers, serving windows, and exterior lighting that doubled as advertising. The 1958 model year placed them squarely in the postwar suburban expansion when mobile vending became a familiar sight in many towns.

The mister softee name and body style reflect the commercial graphics and color schemes used by franchise operators of that era. Automatic transmissions were already appearing in some light commercial vans, matching the transmission listed for this example. The overall design sits between earlier rounded postwar trucks and the more squared-off vehicles that arrived in the 1960s, giving it a distinct mid-century silhouette.

Arizona Picture Car Rental Uses

Crews filming in Arizona can place the truck in 1950s or early 1960s street scenes where an ice cream vendor adds everyday activity. It works for background texture in suburban or small-town establishing shots and for closer shots that show the serving window or lit signage. The working generator and lights allow the vehicle to operate during night exteriors or extended takes without external power.

Still photographers and music video directors can use the off-white finish and period details as a standalone subject or as a branded element in product or lifestyle content. Event planners and commercial productions have booked similar vintage trucks for branded activations or temporary installations where a functioning food-service vehicle is required. The Mesa location keeps the truck within a short drive of many Arizona soundstages and practical locations.
